About the Department:
Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) is one of the major academic departments at Yanbu Industrial College (YIC). The Department has established its intermediate diploma degree in Manufacturing Technology Program (MTP) in 1991 and Mechanical Maintenance Technology Program (MMTP) in 1994, based on the huge demand for technical manpower from the industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The department has introduced a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology Program (MCETP) in 2005 as a continuation of the intermediate diploma degree programs. In 2023, a direct admission Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is started instead.
Our academic achievements are the manifestation of our commitment to impart excellence in providing technical knowledge and training in hands on skills to our students. Excellent lab facilities, modern classrooms, highly qualified and experienced faculty members contribute to our excellent academic achievements.
Our intermediate diploma degree programs are one of the first programs of its kind in the middle east to get ABET accreditation since 2007. According to a government survey our graduates are highly ranked for employability in the kingdom.
Head of Department Message:
As head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and one of its graduates, I am honored to lead a team committed to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Our department is focused on empowering students with a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles and the practical skills necessary in today’s dynamic industrial landscape. Through our comprehensive curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and distinguished faculty members, we aim to cultivate technical expertise and professional growth in each student.
We place a strong emphasis on hands-on experience, teamwork, and problem-solving, ensuring that our graduates are well-equipped to meet global engineering and technical challenges and contribute effectively across sectors, from manufacturing to energy and beyond. Our faculty is dedicated to mentoring students and fostering a learning environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
As we continue to grow, we look forward to further enhancing our programs, expanding research collaborations, and providing our students with opportunities to excel in their careers. We are proud of the achievements of our graduates, who have proven themselves as skilled and innovative professionals in the technical field.
Dr. Ashraf M. Alghamni
Vision and Mission:
Vision:
To be a leader in Mechanical Engineering Technology Education in Saudi Arabia and stay competitive at the cutting edge of technology through the excellence of its faculty, staff, students, facilities and programs.
Mission:
To prepare qualified high school graduates to become engineering technicians and engineers ready for immediate employment.
Department Organizational Structure

Scientific Clubs:
1. ME Student Club
2. ASME Student chapter
Cooperative Training:
Cooperative (COOP) training is a full-time industrial training. It gives our students an opportunity to apply the concepts m in a real work environment. Also, prospective employers have the opportunity to take a closer look at the student and to assess his skills, knowledge and ability to perform in practical situations. During the training period, the student’s (trainee) progress is monitored by both the faculty and the organization where he is having the training. A supervisor from each side monitors student progress and at the end of the training period the student writes a training report and presents it before a faculty panel for assessment.
Academic Guidance:
Each student is provided with an academic advisor to help him complete the study plan successfully and effectively. The department has an academic support committee to coordinate and monitor the academic advisory tasks. The academic Advisors assist the students regarding course selection and scheduling for registration and ensure that students follow the study plan.
Graduation Projects:
The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program students have a Design Project I (ME 300) and Design Project II (ME 400) courses. In the first course, students initialize a project or a research idea and form a team to start integrating the gained engineering knowledge, skills and values to develop a solution or research real-world engineering problems. In the second course, students will implement their research idea and complete the project.
