The Saudi national biology team achieved six silver medals at the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO 2025), hosted in Sochi, Russia, from May 10 to 17, with the participation of 100 students from 17 countries around the world.

This accomplishment comes as the result of joint efforts between the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education, in their mission to empower and support talented students, prepare them to participate in international scientific competitions, and represent the Kingdom in the best possible way.

The Kingdom’s team in this international Olympiad consisted of six gifted students, all of whom succeeded in winning silver medals — a remarkable achievement that adds to Saudi Arabia’s growing record in global scientific Olympiads.

The team included: Abdullah Haji Al-Subaie from Taif Education, Fouad Hussein Bajnid from Jeddah Education, Hassan Abdullah Al-Bahar from Riyadh Education, Hamza Mohammed Ba’eesa from Riyadh Education, Ziyad Ahmed Al-Namri from RCJY Yanbu Education, and Elias Fawzi Asloob from Jeddah Education.

This marked Saudi Arabia’s first participation in this inaugural edition of the Open International Biology Olympiad, which serves as a global scientific platform aimed at developing students’ skills in biology and fostering scientific and cultural exchange among countries worldwide.

This achievement reflects the Kingdom’s continued active presence in international scientific forums, and underscores the quality of the training programs provided by “Mawhiba” in partnership with the Ministry of Education. It also highlights Saudi Arabia’s investment in nurturing talented students to achieve global scientific excellence, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.
