The English Language Department of Yanbu English Language and Preparatory Year Institute provides competency-based learning in the four main English language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. This focus arises as a result of the specific requirements of the local industry in the fields of engineering, management, and information technology. We aim to create a learning community where everyone participates in the attainment of our objectives in a collaborative atmosphere that contributes to the evolution and continual development of the Institute. In order to facilitate this, we have put together a comprehensive series of language learning programs that develop the communicative competencies required to function effectively in multilingual business and industrial environments. Our programs involve an initial assessment stage, in which students are ranked according to their level of proficiency, before starting their studies. We use appropriate curriculum that has been selected and developed to match the various ability levels of students. This curriculum is delivered by highly qualified and skilled English as a Foreign Language teachers, using a variety of educational materials and advanced technology to enhance learning.

The Institute liaises with local industries and other departments of the College to ensure that the content of our programs corresponds to their exact needs. We have a well-knit coordination system that ensures that our programs are run smoothly and professionally. We also have integrated assessment systems that effectively evaluate teachers’ and students’ performance. Thus, high standards are promoted and maintained. The English courses offered at YEL-PYI are fundamental components of Diploma, Associate and Bachelor’s Degree programs in the respective fields of engineering, technology and business. They are taught by over 80 teachers, hailing from 14 different countries. This wide cultural diversity enriches the depth of experience and awareness within the Institute and contributes to the strong sense of professional unity that exists.
