Mechanical Skills Department
Established in 2004, the Mechanical Skills Department is as old as the Institute itself. It has blossomed into a major training center essentially due to the combined efforts of a very dedicated team of staff and students who are committed to the overall development of department and the institute. The Mechanical Skills Department has produced outstanding technicians, machinists, draftsmen and welders who have successfully proved their professional competence in their respective disciplines. The department lays special emphasis on practical skills, industrial safety and excellent work ethics apart from academic excellence. Department’s missions are to impart hands-on training of its students, by world-class faculty, through innovative teaching, mentoring and knowledge creation. The department has well equipped workshops, simulated industrial facilities to support academic programs and carry out practical trainings as per industrial standards. The workshops have small and heavy duty machines, with safety measures in line with the industrial standards.
The academic curriculum is designed to meet the industrial requirements and national objectives, with consideration of knowledge and skills. Therefore, 80% of the curriculum is dedicated for practical side while the theoretical one represents just only 20%. Moreover, the courses are mainly concentrated on knowledge acquisition, appropriate practical skills, and the ability to make the right decisions in vocational areas and work environments to direct Saudi youths into a culture of productivity and foster a culture of self-reliance.
